When Orange Cassidy was introduced to AEW fans in 2019 – no one expected him to become the hardest working champion in the company’s history.
However, his reign as AEW International Champion saw him make 31 successful defences in under 300 days – and is already the stuff of legend. Tonight, just a few days after losing the belt to Jon Moxley – Cassidy will open AEW Dynamite.
Orange Cassidy Isn’t Done Being The Workhorse Of AEW After Loss To Jon Moxley
Hitting the ring to chants of ‘Thank you Orange’, he’d just thank the fans and tell them that AEW told him to stay home. He didn’t want to do that, so he was here this week – and will be here every week.
Championship or not, Cassidy will be here for AEW – because he’s Freshly Squeezed Orange Cassidy, and he doesn’t have a catchphrase. Things were kept short and sweet, just the way fans like it when Cassidy speaks.
Jon Moxley was the man who did what 31 men couldn’t at All Out – defeating Orange Cassidy for the AEW International Championship. He was pushed harder than ever before, with this being his hardest title victory yet in AEW.
Now, he’s holding the workhouse championship of AEW – and intends to ensure it keeps that reputation. Tonight, he will defend against the always impressive AR Fox, who looks to take advantage of a beaten and bruised Moxley. He’d hit the ring after Cassidy’s brief promo – and Cassidy would look back at the ring, perhaps considering a rematch down the line.
Mox vs. Fox
Moxley tried for the lariat as the match began, with Fox ducking out of the way before being forced into the corner for a series of chops. Some punches to the forehead would follow, before Fox was sent to the apron.
An elbow smash staggered Moxley, before a springboard dropkick. Moxley would slip out to the floor, and Fox soared over the top rope with a dive onto Moxley.
Back into the ring, Fox would be hit with the Release Suplex – crashing hard into the mat. A back rake on the apron almost set up a brainbuster, but Fox slipped free and hit a draping DDT through the ropes.
Moxley would brawl with Fox on the floor, before setting him up around the ring post, slamming his knees against the steel post before trying for a hanging Figure Four – only to be pulled into the post face first.
Back in the ring, Fox was unable to get the match under control, ending up in the Indian Deathlock – with Moxley reaching up and biting the fingers of Fox.
A rope break forced Moxley to let Fox free, and would hit some stiff Roundhouse Kicks to the chest – only for Fox to fire back with an Enziguri and a jumping neckbreaker.
The rolling cutter was next, getting Fox a near fall – before Moxley slipped to the floor. A springboard moonsault off the apron saw Fox land onto Moxley, and rolled him into the ring with a 450 Splash for the near fall.
Moxley would catch Fox with the Kimura Lock, before the Hammer & Anvil Elbows. King Kong Lariat & Death Rider followed – and Moxley makes his first successful defense as AEW International Champion.
