MJF is starting to feel the burden of a champion. Still recovering from AEW All In where Adam Cole did everything to try to take the AEW World Championship from his best friend – MJF would be left with a hurt neck. Dark Order pressed this injury at All Out a week later, where MJF & Cole barely slipped away with the ROH World Tag Team Championships.
Now, MJF has one of the most dangerous men in professional wrestling staring him down – as he defends against Samoa Joe. Joe crushed Jeff Hardy, Penta El Zero Miedo & Roderick Strong to earn this chance – as will do anything to become champion.
Samoa Joe Goes Right For The Neck
Joe would instantly go after the neck of MJF, whipping him head first into the mat. MJF would get some offence in, before the S.T.Joe in the corner slammed him back into the mat.
Joe went for a pinfall, and already had to rely on the ropes to kick out. MJF was already on the ropes, and Joe made that literal – placing him on the middle rope and hitting a running leg drop to the back of the neck.
Joe would let MJF back up, before a running back elbow to the face – and forced MJF to kick out or lose his belt in record time. MJF would take some stiff jabs in the corner, before a chop to the neck.
Joe would be hit with some short arm lariats, but would not fall. MJF took one big lariat, before having his New York shirt ripped off and thrown at his face.
Bleeding from his mouth, MJF would try to hulk up – and got Joe in the corner as he smashed him head first into the corner. Downward punches would follow, before MJF would simply bite the forehead of Joe. Trying to shove him off, MJF landed on his feet and hit the Kangaroo Kick – sending Joe to the floor.
Joe would lure MJF into a dive, catching him with a Gamiguri through the ropes. Death Valley Driver on the apron followed, seeing MJF crash neck and shoulder first.
While the referee checked MJF, Joe set up a table at ringside – and sent MJF through with a Uranage. Pulling up the padding on the floor, Joe would hit a piledriver on the floor – and even he looked a bit impressed with this level of violence.
Joe Gets Choked Out
MJF would be pulled into the ring, and was told to give up. He spat in the face of Joe, and was rocked with a slap to the jaw. Joe would counter a lariat and floated into a powerbomb for a two count. MJF had found that all important second wind – and tried for a sleeper hold – but Joe got one of his own.
The referee was pulled in by MJF, and a Mule Kick was hit. MJF grabbed the Dynamite Diamond Ring – but this old trick was caught.
Joe hit a low blow and the Muscle Buster – but somehow, MJF kicked out. Coquina Clutch would be applied by MJF – and Adam Cole rushed to ringside to motivate his tag team partner.
He broke free and got a sleeper of his own, before the referee was taken out of the ring. MJF would use the wrist tape to choke Joe out – hiding the tape around the neck with his arms.
Joe was beaten by referee stoppage – and MJF hid the evidence like a pro. MJF would get a handshake offer from Joe, and took it – with Joe showing why he’s a respected veteran.
