CM Punk’s actions that resulted in him being fired from AEW have gotten people both defending and mocking him, but there’s one person that will be in his corner no matter what through this is Jim Cornette.
Cornette’s never made a secret about how he feels about AEW and Tony Kahn or the EVPs. So, anytime someone has an issue with them he’s usually the first one to defend them.
It’s always fun listening to Cornette’s thoughts on the business in general, but it feels like Tony Kahn and AEW are getting close to the same level of contempt he has for Vince Russo.
We don’t think Cornette can hate anyone as much as Russo, but you never know.
While Cornette can be on about a good number of things, his conjecture can be scathing and crosses lines, but that’s him and it’s what his listeners expect.
Setting him up
After Punk was fired following a backstage incident at All In 2023, Cornette wasn’t happy and he let his opinion be known on his podcast.
He ran down the list of things that went wrong for Punk going to the event, and we have to admit it is an impressive list, but would Tony Kahn really try to push Punk out of AEW by frustrating him?
“They send him to Atlanta for a meeting then they cancel it. Then they fly him across the fug in England. And they stick him at the airport with no transportation. Then he gets lost on the goddamn subway.
“Then he goes to the biggest show of all time and he has to sit there and watch some f—ing curly-headed f—ing entitled little prick mouth off on him on television while he’s standing there. What do you think he was gonna do?
“I’m surprised he didn’t football kick Tony in the f—ing pu–y.”
Really, Cornette sounds more like he’s stating a case for Punk to be frustrated and we can understand that given the transportation issue, but the rest?
It’s really starting to sound like a square peg in a round hole type of situation with words and hurt feelings everywhere.
It reminds us of when Bret Hart asked Shawn Michaels if he could use his appearance in a magazine for promo material and Michaels said he could.
But after Bret cut his promo Michaels was reportedly upset about it.
