Yesterday was the biggest show in the history of All Elite Wrestling, as they packed 81,035 paid fans into Wembley Stadium for All In. The show was fantastic from top to bottom, with everyone giving their best in the ring.
However, it was not a show without it’s drama – as Jack Perry & CM Punk got into a backstage confrontation early in the night – which has led to both men being suspended.
CM Punk & Jack Perry Got Into Brief Backstage Fight
The incident came between the end of Jack Perry’s FTW Rules match with HOOK and CM Punk’s match which opened the main card against Samoa Joe.
In the match against HOOK, Perry would take a suplex into the windshield of a car, and quipped beforehand “It’s real glass, cry me a river.” This was a jab at Punk, who had an issue with the use of real glass in spots, feeling it would be safer to use artificial glass.
Punk was waiting backstage, due to being next to go out for a match. A verbal disagreement would begin with Perry, which quickly got heated.
One source within AEW stated that Perry would tell Punk to “Do something about it.” Punk would shove Perry, Perry would shove back, and Punk tried to prevent Perry from doing more by putting him in a chokehold. No punches were thrown, and both men were separated.
Both Men Are Suspended, Will Not Be Involved With All Out
It has since been reported that Punk in the heat of the moment would threaten to quit AEW, before leaving the show early on his own accord.
Punk & Perry have both been suspended while this incident is investigated, with Tony Khan refusing to comment during the post show media scrum.
This suspension means that Punk & Perry will not be involved with the upcoming All Out PPV, set for the United Center in Chicago. Neither man was announced for a match, though all signs pointed towards a third match between CM Punk & Ricky Starks on the event.
There is a feeling within AEW that another incident involving CM Punk has distracted attention away from a major event by the company. These are from both talent and management.
