The internet didn’t waste any time in erupting at the news of Adam Copeland signing with AEW as hardcore WWE fans felt betrayed and called for him to be removed from the WWE Hall of Fame and that he tarnished his legacy.
While the fandoms are split, Copeland joining AEW was a good move for him and the company, and it’s something MJF talked about during the WrestleDream Media Scrum.
It was a fun moment as we got to see both sides of MJF as he talked about being a fan and his take on his favorite type of wrestling. We also got to see his heel side when he gave Tony Kahn a backhanded compliment on signing Copeland.
“He’s another guy that’s coming into my company that wants my spot and he’s got another f—ing thing coming if he thinks he’s just going to take it. Great sign, though. Good job Tony.
Dishing out praise and getting names straight
Of course, there always has to be a flub or something during live events, and MJF didn’t disappoint when he talked about how stacked the AEW roster is.
It’s understandable he flubbed and called Copeland Edge since that’s what he’s been known for in is twenty plus year run in the WWE, but since WWE owns the trademark to the name Tony Kahn quickly stepped in to correct MJF.
“I think bell-to-bell, right now, we have one of the best professional wrestling rosters ever in the history of the sport. “It’s f—ing insane — MJF, Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, Christian Cage, Edge (Kahn stepped in here to correct MJF and called Edge by his real name Adam Copeland), Malakai Black, Miro, Will Hobbs, Ricky Starks, Claudio Castagnoli, Eddie Kingston… and I’m not even… it’s messed up (how great the roster is). Like I said, again, I couldn’t be prouder to be at the top of the mountain when you have a roster like this.”
AEW does have an impressive roster, but it’s also bloated like the WWE’s was a few years ago and it’s going to be interesting to see how Kahn will continue to manage it.
There’s been plenty of criticism of his booking as he liked to rotate most of his talent on and off TV so everyone gets seen, but that can leave a couple of weeks were we miss someone.
