One of the more unexpected tag team champions in All Elite Wrestling came when the team of Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee would unite as ‘Swerve In Our Glory’.
Both known for their singles wrestling skills in WWE and on the indies – this seemed like an odd move, but the results spoke for themselves.
They would be dominant champions – and their final act as a tag team saw them shoot The Acclaimed to the top of the company.
Swerve Strickland Reflects On Time Alongside Keith Lee
Speaking on the Mark Hoke Show, Swerve Strickland would reflect on his time together with Keith Lee in AEW. Swerve had the following to say.
“Working with Keith at the time was a phenomenal experience. I bet a lot of fans wish we had the tag titles now. Not to take any credit away from FTR, they’re still putting out bangers, especially what they did with Jay White and Juice Robinson, which is one of the best tag matches I’ve seen all year, it was incredible work. I feel like there is a flux in the tag team division that we’re still working on.
When me and Keith tagged earlier this year against Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy, people were like, ‘this is nostalgia.’ Nostalgia, it wasn’t even a year ago. It was a little nostalgia and people were like, ‘these guys guys, we didn’t appreciate these guys when they were on top with the tag titles.’ It was a very unique thing, bringing out the Rick Ross ‘accusations’ GIFs, Kevin Gates, doing these unique things.
You didn’t know what was going to happen between us because there was always something unique with our entrance. ‘Are they on the same page?’ There was always a story, not between our opponents, but the story was me and Keith, that’s what made our tag team unique.”
Both Lee & Swerve were in action at AEW WrestleDream. Lee was in action on Zero Hour, teaming with Athena, Billie Starkz & Satoshi Kojima for a victory.
Swerve meanwhile defeated former AEW World Champion Hangman Page on the main card. A singles match between Lee & Swerve remains fresh in the minds of fans – potentially happening before the end of 2023.
