During her audition on “American Idol,” Sara Beth Liebe accused Katy Perry of making a “mom-shaming” joke and causing her to feel “hurt” and “embarrassed.”
American Idol Contestant Sara Beth Liebe Slams Katy Perry’s Mom-Shaming Comments-‘It’s Hard Enough To Be A Mom’
The act of mom shaming occurs when individuals pass negative remarks on a mother’s decisions on parenting which are different from their own choices or decisions they would have taken. And this all came to a head with the audition.
Liebe’s audition started with a surprise for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan as they were amazed by her youthful appearance despite her age of 25.
Moreover, Perry jokingly pretended to faint on the table when Liebe disclosed that she is a mother of three children. In her comments, Liebe said: “If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out,” to which Perry replied: “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”
Those comments did not sit very well with Liebe, who made it clear in no uncertain terms that she was not going to tolerate such a thing. And in the process of doing so, she praised all those who came out to defend and praise her for having children.
In her comments in response, she remarked: “I did want to take this opportunity to just say that I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool.
“I think that mom shaming is super lame and I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom, and it’s hard enough to be a woman.” The response on social media was much the same.
A certain subset of people rallied around the star and urged her to continue to follow her aspirations in spite of what Perry had to say. Meanwhile, others began to slam Perry on the grounds that she had come across as lacking class and grace.
One person wrote: “I can’t believe after the way Perry treated her on “NATIONAL TV” while she was making an ass out of herself turns around and gives her a yes.”
Perry has yet to respond to this, which is understandable due to the mass negative scrutiny that has emerged. And by the looks of it, this is not going away anytime soon.
