It has been claimed that the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, was given a £16 million payment up front for his best-selling memoir Spare.
Prince Harry Was Reportedly Given A £16 Million Advance For Spare-‘Money Money Money Since He Married Meghan’
According to reports, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were said to have made a contract with Penguin Random House to produce four books. With that being said, Harry’s book Spare performed quite well when it came to the number of copies sold.
In the initial week of its release, Spare sold 467,183 copies in the UK, making it the fastest-selling non-fiction book since 1998, when records were first kept.
Within the span of a fortnight, the book’s sales in the UK had risen to more than 750,000 when audio and ebook versions were taken into account. In the United States, it also sold 629,300 copies in the first seven days.
Harry committed himself to donating the money from the book to British non-profit charities. He has also contributed to Wellchild and Sentebale – his charity in Africa that helps kids with HIV.
This news followed amid Netflix’s announcement that the six-part series featuring Harry and Meghan was the second most watched docuseries on the platform ever.
And after having had so much success, at least from a financial point of view, there may be further incentives on the couple to produce similar content.
The fans on social media made their position very clear. A certain subset of people were of the view that Harry had compromised his morals in order to live off the money and publicity that was generated by talking about his family so openly.
And in the process of doing so, the comments towards him were brutal. One person wrote: “Well, that’s his soul sold to the Devil. Moving on.”
While another person stated: “Money money money, that’s what it’s all been about since he married Meghan.” So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
