With the news of Vince McMahon firing his son Shane McMahon from the WWE, fans haven’t wasted any time in playing with the possible scenario of Shane joining AEW among others.
The biggest issue that’s being pointed out is him being fired had to have more to do with other issues than what happened with the Royal Rumble and the ramifications of this will be felt down the road.
One of those is Shane now has a chance to try his hand at another endeavor, and while others haven’t worked out there’s no reason something else won’t.
For starters, the most popular theory is he’ll sign with AEW as a talent/creative team member.
He’d be perfect for it for several reasons. For one, he’s bound to have issues with Vince and the WWE and will want to prove himself. Being motivated is a great trait and Shane could be highly motivated.
The slap in the face to Vince would be the shot heard round the wrestling world, and that would cause all sorts of chaos in the WWE, and maybe for the better.
Hostile takeover
Shane going to AEW would be the perfect thing to motivate Vince into turning his product around by building his stars, having coherent and consistent storylines, and bookings that make sense.
It’s exactly what AEW doesn’t want to do as Vince will go to war with them and throw everything he has into it.
AEW’s firing on all cylinders at the moment doing their thing, so signing Shane may not work out.
Of course, fans have been saying they’re hoping Shane shows up on NXT and announces he purchased AEW. It’s not a new rumor as him buying AEW was considered a done deal in June and July by some.
In this case, he could come out to the AEW crowd as part owner similar to Ric Flair doing so when the WWE brand separation started.
It could even be tweaked into Shane attempting a hostile takeover, and if Jeff Hardy arrives there shortly afterwards and rejoins Matt, AEW could have their quartet of the nWo.
Well, a form of the Eric Bischoff and Outsiders component anyway.
It’d open up an Invasion angle of their own, and like Impact Wrestling, they would’ve learned what not to do from the WWE’s attempt twenty years ago.
Or he could simply head his own faction with former WWE stars joining him or take over the Elite with Adam Cole as his top guy.
It’d keep AEW’s top heel faction in place but with fresh blood while giving the Young Bucks a chance to turn face in an Who is the True Elite feud.
