Apparently, Netflix is seeing a significant slowdown in subscriptions as the COVID age rolls on. When this happens, it’s not unusual for companies to start thinking outside of the box for solutions. That’s why Netflix is eyeing gaming as the next move for the platform. The company has teamed up with Montreal video game consulting firm RocketRide Games in hopes of getting more games on the service.
Netflix To Push Into Video Games as Subscriptions Slump
If this sounds somewhat familiar, last year Netflix hooked up with the same group to bring a few casual games to their mobile app. At the moment, Dominoes Café and Knittens found a home on the streaming service’s mobile app thanks to RocketRide Games which ser. The app is free for subscribers and means that users who are taking a break from watching films and bingeing TV shows to play a game or two—without ads!
It would definitely be odd to see ads on the platform given that this has never been a Hulu-type of service. Ad time doesn’t factor into how Netflix operates. RocketRide’s CEO Louis Rene Auclair released a statement on the new deal:
“Everyone at RocketRide Games is extremely proud of this new partnership with Netflix. Having the ability to bring games to their millions of subscribers is definitely a great opportunity for RocketRide Games and for video games studios all over the world.”
RocketRide Games provides services for developers such as publishing, marketing, business development, assisting with the creative direction of a project, and production of games. Many of those same services are provided to Netflix as part of its Netflix Games initiative which was announced in November 2021.
