Prince Charles Will Soon Become King
In the heat of several tributes pouring in for the veteran monarch, word broke out yesterday that the Queen will step down from the throne within a year to make way for her son, Prince Charles. While Queen Elizabeth is the longest-reigning monarch in British history, Prince Charles, 73, has been the heir apparent since the age of three.
Queen Elizabeth II Set To Step Down From Throne Within A Year
According to a source in the military, ‘sensitive’ preparations for Prince Charles’ enthronement are already in progress and the Prince of Wales could even ascend the throne next year. He said: “We are shaping a military event that will need approval from the palace nearer the time.”
He continued: “Our role is the ceremonial presentation and to make sure we are ready for whatever date is decided. We have lots of contingencies in place – but this will be special”. Moreover, the source also revealed that the date for the coronation will be exclusively announced by Buckingham Palace on time to allow the Metropolitan Police to strengthen their security structure ahead of the event.
News of the Queen’s plans to step aside is surprising to many people because the Queen promised several years ago to remain on the throne till her death. However, many believe that her decision is due to a combination of re-occurring health challenges, old age, and confidence in Prince Charles’ ability to handle the responsibilities of the Monarchy.
Queen Elizabeth who is the sixth queen in British history to ascend the throne was crowned Queen of England on February 6, 1952 following the death of her father King George VI. She was enthroned as the Monarch ahead of her younger sister Princess Margaret because her father King George VI had no son.
