Right now, there are an insane amount of free agents available in the world of professional wrestling. WWE & Ring of Honor both made deep cuts to their roster in 2021, with ROH releasing all contracted talent and WWE releasing many of their longtime midcard standouts, and several up and coming stars like Keith Lee. While fans of AEW want to see all of their favorites show up in the rising company, only so many spots are open. However, these three names are all expected to show up in AEW sooner, rather than later.
AEW Are Very Interested In Shane Strickland
One of the easiest grabs for AEW comes in Shane Strickland. Known as Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott in WWE, he is easily the hottest free agent on the market now that Keith Lee has been signed. In WWE, he would claim the NXT North American Championship, before being released alongside the rest of the Hit Row faction. While all of Hit Row aren’t ideal signings, as Top Dolla & B-Fab showed very little aptitude within the ring – Swerve is different.
He has the potential to be a main event player, and AEW knows this. AEW have reportedly been interested in signing him since the moment he was released, and Swerve has even teased joining the House of Black stable on social media. With his non-compete clause now up, we could even see Swerve make his debut tonight on AEW Dynamite.
Mia Yim To Join Her Husband Keith Lee In AEW
The internet is still abuzz after the debut of Keith Lee in AEW. However, now the attention shifts slightly to his wife – who is an equally capable professional wrestler. Mia Yim had taken time away from the ring to arrange her wedding, but intends to get back into the ring during the month of March.
Yim is a brawler in the ring, and would bring a unique flair to the AEW Women’s Division, which is growing ever stronger by the day. She would be another solid add, and a great contender for the TBS Championship. However, Yim is also equally likely to rejoin the Knockouts division in Impact Wrestling – a prior home for her in wrestling.
Buddy Matthews Is The Total Package
When it comes to free agents that have been on the market for a while, there are few names that are bigger than Buddy Matthews. He’s been busy since his WWE release, wrestling Kazuchika Okada for NJPW and taking part in PWG BOLA – but has yet to sign a contract.
Matthews is one of the best all around wrestlers available right now, with a great look, impeccable in-ring skills, and loads of charm with his promos. Having modelled part of his style after that of Kenny Omega – it’d be great to see him enter AEW, and see him go for either the AEW World or TNT Championships.
