It’s finally time for Britt Baker to stand on her own as AEW World Women’s Champion. After heavy interference once again brought her victory at Revolution, she now has to face Thunder Rosa in a steel cage. We’ve only seen one steel cage match in AEW history, with Cody Rhodes defeating Wardlow.
Everything is in place for Rosa to defeat Baker tonight in Rosa’s hometown – and the fans are ready for a changing of the guard at the top of the AEW Women’s division. However, should Baker be able to win tonight without her normal tricks? She’d have earned some respect from the fans of AEW.
AEW St Patricks Day Slam Results: Thunder Rosa Defeats Britt Baker In Steel Cage Match To Win AEW World Women’s Championship (03/16)
Britt Baker would try to escape the cage quickly, but Rosa wasn’t letting her go anywhere. Rosa yanked her back down before some strikes to the face. Even escaping the cage wouldn’t keep Baker as champion, as you can only win by pinfall, knockout or submission in an AEW Steel Cage.
Baker would be driven face first into the steel of the cage – and had her face drug across the chain link. Already bloody, Baker was still ready to do more damage – punching down on the forehead. There was a small section where there was some floor between the ring and the cage – and Baker would use it to find some space to breathe.
Rosa was bleeding as well, before Baker applied the cravat and nailed some knee strikes to the head. Baker threw Rosa into the cage, before hitting the Fisherman Neckbreaker for the two count. Going under the ring for some steel chairs – Baker would look to make this one a touch more extreme.
Rosa would fight back with a lariat, before getting Baker on the spine with the chair. A stunner was landed, before the running lariat in the corner. Double knee strike would follow, and a dropkick soon after. Fire Thunder Driver was set, before Baker slipped free.
Referee Paul Turner took a superkick before being sent into the cage – and suddenly there was no referee. Rosa got a visual pinfall off a Fire Thunder Driver, before Baker got Rosa on the top rope and landed a super Air Raid Crash onto the chairs.
Referee Aubrey Edwards hit the ring, and Baker was building a structure of chairs with another Air Raid Crash in mind. Rosa would fight free and send Baker down onto the chairs – but this was somehow not enough to get the finish.
Baker nailed a superkick and grabbed a bag of thumbtacks – and poured them on the mat. Rosa was backdropped onto the tacks, before Lockjaw was attempted. Baker had her hand bit, before a powerbomb onto tacks. Finally, Fire Thunder Driver onto the tacks landed – and we got a new champion.
