The last time Mercedes Martinez met Thunder Rosa, we saw one of the only DQ finishes in AEW history. Referees in AEW tend to give a lot of wiggle room in matches, but Martinez whacking Rosa with a steel pipe was an obvious case to call for the end of the match. Everything was put together by Britt Baker, who hopes to see Rosa destroyed before she gets a title shot.
Tonight, we get the rematch of Rosa & Martinez, but this time weapons are allowed – as they meet in a No DQ match. This might be a mistake for Martinez, seeing as Rosa holds the only female Lights Out match victory in the company’s history, showing that Rosa is not afraid of getting downright violent.
These Ladies Came To Fight
Martinez was armed with that steel pipe, and Rosa brought a steel chair. Neither had any fear, and Rosa got the better of the opening exchange. Martinez was taken into the ring, but was able to get some stiff strikes on Rosa. Rosa shot right back, before taking her to the outside and driving her into the ring post.
Martinez drove Rose into the steel steps, only to be thrown right through the barricade. Rosa would brawl with Martinez into the crowd, before jumping off the stairs onto Martinez. On their way back to the ring, Rosa was slammed onto the section of barricade – and in the ring Martinez would use the steel chair.
Martinez looked for the slam onto a pile of chairs, only to instead take the stunner from Rosa. A table was set up at ringside, with it leaning against the ring. Death Valley Driver was blocked, and Martinez hit a Fisherman Buster onto the table. Back into the ring, Martinez would look for a driver off the top rope into the trashcan – only to instead be launched with a superrana.
Britt Baker Attacks Thunder Rosa Following A Wicked Fight
Martinez had the trash can put over her head, and a dropkick landed – but Martinez got out of bounds to halt the pinfall. Rosa went to the top rope, but took the trash can lid to the head and was dropped with the Spider German Suplex.
Martinez slipped off the ropes but still got all of the elbow drop, but Rosa came right back with a Crucifix Bomb. After the match, Rosa showed some respect to Martinez, before Baker, Hayter & Rebel hit the ring. Martinez failed to beat Rosa – and now it’s time to finish her. Hayter & Rebel attacked Rosa, and now it’s very clear what is next.
