It looks like the Cody Rhodes saga has reached it’s end after he and Brandi Rhodes shocked he wrestling world by leaving AEW.
It marked the first major talent leaving AEW but Cody was also one of the founders of AEW and a EVP. There were various reports that Cody may have had a falling out due to losing his say over creative.
It was reported that all the EVPs lost their creative powers as originally Cody ran the singles division, the Young Bucks the tag division, and Brandi the women’s.
Cody leaving AEW brings to mind how he left the WWE in 2016 when he said he felt overlooked and undervalued.
The difference between the two is Cody has been far more kind as far as his comments toward AEW than they were toward WWE at the time.
Signing with WWE
There have been plenty of hints dropped by the WWE to tease a Cody signing, with the biggest being Seth Rollins has no one to face at WrestleMania.
Dave Meltzer reported earlier this week that Rollins vs. Cody still circulated internally at WWE. And now it appears he was right as those rumors may become reality after Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that Cody has signed with the WWE and will appear on the Raw brand.
According to Johnson, Cody signed 10-14 days ago, about the time WWE started to hint at his return.
Propaganda machine ready
This is the type of media splash the WWE craves and needs as they’d happily tout recruiting a former EVP from their main rival and how AEW must not be that good a place to work if Cody left.
The problem with this is it’s unlikely that Cody will dump on AEW as he’s been hesitant to do so since he left, but he also had no problem shredding the WWE and mocking Triple H to help AEW so we’ll have to wait and see.
Media hype aside, Cody and Rollins would be an awesome match and it’ll garner plenty of hype before they take to the ring with the WWE having to do very little.
Before leaving AEW, it was hard to tell what Cody was doing with his character and it left a lot of fans confused, and we’re curious what the WWE has in mind for him.
The WWE creative direction has been rough at best for a while, and this is the perfect chance for them to get it right and have Cody and Rollins have an awesome feud going forward.
