Tetsuya Naito was able to get the better of Jeff Cobb at Tokyo Dome, but after taking a month away from Cobb’s career with injury? Cobb is ready to tear Naito apart as they meet in the Quarter Finals of the New Japan Cup. Naito knows to target the knees of Cobb, but that might not be quite enough this time. Cobb has never beaten Naito in singles action, just adding to the fire inside.

Tetsuya Naito Inspires Some Fans To Break The Rules

During his entrance, there was a small Naito chant from some rebellious members of the crowd, which is normally reduced to simply applause due to COVID-19 restrictions. Cobb would look ready, and drove Naito to the ropes on the opening lock up. His left knee was heavily taped up coming into this match – not a great sign for Cobb.

Naito would fail to lock up with Cobb for a second time, before getting the standing switch and yanking the hair of Cobb after the break on the ropes. Cobb would send Naito flying before taking a moment to taunt – and taking a dropkick to the neck in the process. Naito would hit the running hurricanrana – taking advantage of Cobb expecting the dropkick to the knee.

Cobb would get locked in the leg applied Full Nelson on the mat – but his neck was stronger than the legs of Naito. WIll Ospreay & Great-O-Khan would hype up Cobb from the ringside area, and Cobb nailed a Scott Hall esque Fallaway Slam. Naito would nearly be thrown into the lap of Kevin Kelly on english commentary – but instead Cobb sent him into the ring.

A short uppercut to the neck of Naito would land, before a delayed one arm vertical suplex just flaunted the insane power of Cobb. Cobb hit his own version of Combinación de Cabrón in the corner, before Naito would fight back with an armdrag and back elbow.

    Jeff Cobb Gets Caught

Dropkick to the knee would land, before Cobb was hit with the neckbreaker. Kneebar was applied, and while Cobb got the ropes – Naito ‘forgot’ how to take the hold off, getting a few more seconds of damage. Swing DDT would be stopped by the power of Cobb – only to take some downward elbow strikes.

Cobb shot back with a heavy lariat – and had a second to breath. Naito was sent to the apron before being dead lifted up into a superplex for Cobb. He’d kick out only to take a standing moonsault for the near fall. Tour of The Islands was teased but Naito blocked and got the Swing DDT. Espernza would land, and Naito looked for Destino – only for Cobb to block into the Spin Cycle.

Naito would manage a dropkick to the knee, only for Cobb to fire back with a tackle. Doctor Bomb would follow for a near fall, and Tour of Islands was set again. Naito would block into Destino for the near fall. Tour of the Islands was blocked into a roll up – and Naito wins another one!

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
