Much has been made of Prince William’s and Kate Middleton’s trip to the Caribbean. The Cambridges touched down at three commonwealth nations under eight days. However, things did not go according to plan for the couple in some nations. Their visit there was marred by intense demonstrations against the monarchy.
Prince William’s Statement Addressing The Future Leadership Of The Commonwealth Nations
A few moments after they took off from the Bahamas, Prince William published a statement that directly addressed the future leadership of Commonwealth nations. The statement read, “Foreign tours are an opportunity to reflect. You learn so much before going on to reflect on questions about the past and the future”.
Prince William Plans To Stop Queen Elizabeth’s Top Rule In Royal Revolution Designed To ‘Futureproof’ Firm
He added: “I know this tour has brought into even sharper focus questions about the past and the future. In Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas, that future is for the people to decide upon. Catherine and I are committed to service. It’s not about telling people what to do.
Who the Commonwealth chooses to lead its family in the future isn’t what is on my mind.” He continued: “What matters to us is the potential the Commonwealth family has to create a better future for the people who form it, and our commitment to serve and support as best we can.”
Reacting to William’s statement, Rebecca English, a reliable royal commentator, has claimed that “Prince William wants to modernise the monarchy by ending its long-standing ‘never complain, never explain’ policy”. The famous policy was introduced by Queen Elizabeth’s mum in 1936. It describes the indifferent attitude of the royal family public relations. And explains why the royal family doesn’t wade into issues that do not directly affect them.
The royal expert suggested that though the Duke of Cambridge “respects” this tactic employed by his grandmother and father, he is convinced that a change is required. Prince William released the statement after his official trip together with Kate Middleton was tainted by several demonstrations by some communities they stop at. The protesters are calling for their nations to become a republic.
