A business contact of Will Smith‘s has recently revealed that the Hollywood star’s 10-year Oscar exile is already ending his career as a top actor. More than two of the star’s forthcoming movie productions are in peril after his smack incident with Chris Rock. It is also understood that the pictures might be shelved outright while he confronts a decade away from Hollywood.
Can Will Smith Bounce Back After The 10-Year Ban?
Reacting to Smith’s ban, a long-time studio executive who was formerly employed by the Oscar winner said, “His whole professional life is crashing down around him and it’s beginning to sink in that he is now doomed to be an outcast.
Will Smith’s 10-Year Suspension Is Already Ruining His A-List Career, A Business Associate Says
The punishment cancels Will as a major, sought-after actor in much the same way Johnny Depp has been treated like a pariah since being labelled a wife beater by London’s High Court. Can he bounce back? In time, possibly yes. But 10 years is a very long time to be removed from the biggest stage in showbiz.”
Smith could still earn a second Oscar, but, over the next ten years, he will not be permitted to physically receive it at the live show or through virtual technology at the yearly event. He is reportedly travelling to an expensive US program to devote some time to “soul-searching and working out how he can move forward”.
According to reports from Sony studio executives, Bad Boys 4 has been temporarily suspended. Netflix managers are also rumoured to be contemplating freezing a followup to Smith’s 2017 smash hit Bright, as well as pausing the comic criminal drama Fast and Loose. Recently, Apple TV+ authorities also ruled on the future of the drama “Emancipation,” in which Smith portrays an escaped slave.
The editor-in-chief of US showbiz website The Wrap, Sharon Waxman, remarked, “One agent we talked to said his career is mortally wounded.” Promoter Michael Levine also reacted to the ban by chiming, “Who’s going to say, ‘I want to make a Will Smith movie’?” Will Smith hit Rock at last month’s Oscar gala after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. And thereafter, he scooped the Best Actor prize.
