Stipulation Set For Next NJPW King Of Pro Wrestling Championship Match

Since its inception in 2020, the King of Pro Wrestling Championship in NJPW has been focused entirely on the antics of Toru Yano. Every match has a stipulation, with both contenders pitching one – and the fans get the last call with a vote. Yano ended both 2020 and 2021 as the holder of this championship, and has been involved in every single match – but that changes tomorrow. After defeating Yano in a ‘Sumo Style’ match on April 9th – Taichi is now champion.

Taichi vs. Shingo Takagi To Be A ‘Thirty Count Match’

He immediately took aim at former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi. They will clash tomorrow on a special night of the NJPW Golden Series tour – and fans have made their vote on the special stipulation for this next match. Shingo Takagi wanted a “Takagi Style Three Count Match”, where a wrestler must get three falls – a one count, two count, and three count to win.

Taichi pitched another count based match, a thirty count match. You don’t need to pin someone for thirty seconds however, but rather get a combined count of thirty over the course of the match to win. When the fans were given the choice – they would decide that Taichi’s stipulation sounds more interesting.

You can definitely see how this match has a chance to get very tense. Every single pinfall attempt will count, and as it goes on – you will not be able to afford to end up in a pinfall.

The Start Of This Championship Becoming More Serious?

This is hopefully the start of something fresh for the KOPW Championship. While Toru Yano matches are always insane to see, fans have started to tire of his domination of the champion. Getting the likes of Taichi & Shingo in the mix, and being able to bring out their own stipulations could be just what this championship needed.

Also set for the April 25th stop on the Golden Series tour is a defence of the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Championships. House Of Torture will defend against Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) & Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Do you think Taichi can remain KOPW Champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
