This day in wrestling history came during an uncertain time for many in the wrestling industry as the pandemic had eliminated live crowds.
Still, 2021 was an amazing year in professional wrestling as Tony Kahn opened the Forbidden Door and worked with numerous companies during the pandemic
One of the companies they partnered with was Impact Wrestling who have a reputation of having an open door policy as they’re willing to work with anyone.

Putting up a fight
The match was… rough in many ways as Rich Swann was more of a sparring partner or punching bag than anything else as he played the role of underdog.
For many, it felt like Swann didn’t give his best effort, but that could be because of how the match was booked.
Omega dominated a glorified squash match from the start with a few flourishes by Swann, and it felt more like a statement that AEW (Omega) was that much more superior, like what we’d expect from the WWE.
Still, it took about a dozen V-Triggers for Omega to weaken Swann enough to finally hit his One Winged Angel for the win.
The year of Omega
While the quality of the match can be debated, there’s no denying the greatness of Kenny Omega.
Omega has been largely underrated by mainstream wrestling fans because his career has mainly been in the Indies and in Japan, but AEW started to change that.
AEW gave Omega and many others a chance to shine and Omega took it to a whole other level when he carried the championship for two companies and showed his skill as the business’ top heel.
He would go on to capture the AAA World Championship in November of 2021 to hold three major titles at the same time before he dropped the Impact World title to Christian Cage.
Since giving up his three titles, Omega’s taken time off to heal from the various injuries he dealt with through the arduous schedule he was tasked with.
There were reports that he contemplated retirement numerous times during his triple reign as injuries mounted, but it appears he’ll return one he’s fully recharged.
For one year Omega was the top wrestler in the world and it was an awesome ride.
