Fans will have to wait even longer for the return of Kenny Omega to the ring in AEW. After dropping the AEW World Heavyweight Championship to Hangman Page at Full Gear 2021 – Omega made it clear that he was taking time off to heal up a long list of injuries.
A tease from Don Callis during the Revolution Buy-In had fans thinking he’d be back soon. However, Omega is still in the process of getting the needed surgeries – and there is no timetable for his return.
Kenny Omega Is Recovery From Knee Surgery, Has More To Come
In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, we’d get the following information about the status of Kenny Omega. Dave Meltzer would report the following.
“Kenny Omega is currently recovering from knee surgery. Recovery will take about 10 weeks. He’s getting surgery to repair his sports hernia at the end of March, about a 2 month recovery. There’s also other things he’s taking care of. There is no time frame set for his return”
Simply put, it’s insane that Omega was putting on the performances he was with the state his body was in. It shows how elite of a performer Omega is, and that no matter how long the wait is – that his return will be worth the time he spent recovering.
A Storyline And Major Match Waiting For Omega On His Return
When Kenny Omega returns to AEW TV, there is a storyline waiting for him. He left The Elite under the care of The Young Bucks, only for Adam Cole to start running the show alongside Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish. Tension is building between Young Bucks & reDRagon, especially as Cole uses them to help target their old friend of Hangman Page.
The Elite vs. Undisputed Era is a major money match for AEW – and could be a PPV main event. AEW might need to drag the story out while Omega heals up, but it could come as soon as Full Gear 2022 or Revolution 2023.
