Royal author Tina Brown has claimed that Meghan Markle “apparently hated every second” of her first royal tour with her then newly-wedded husband, Prince Harry. A few moments after Meghan tied the knot with Harry in 2018, the Sussexes embarked on a royal trip to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga. Along the line, the couple also attended the Invictus Games in Sydney.
However, the royal author has suggested that, according to a former royal worker, Meghan’s heart was far away from the royal engagements. Ms. Brown disclosed that the source told her that the Duchess believed that the tour was outdated and she would rather be doing the things she loved.
Meghan Markle Thought The Royal Family Needed Her More Than She Needed Them
In her latest book, The Palace Papers, Ms. Brown suggested that Meghan thought that “the monarchy likely needed her more than she needed them.” The royal expert further claimed that Meghan believed that her “leading-lady status” should have enjoyed more appreciation during the tour.
She penned, “She had starred in the equivalent of a blockbuster film and wanted her leading-lady status to be reflected in lights.” Ms. Brown’s claims fuel the talk that the Duchess has never really felt at home in the royal family. Throughout the royal engagements, the Sussexes were not completely constrained to official functions. It is understood that the couple even took time out to have a secret dinner with friends in Sydney.
The Sussexes’ biography, “Finding Freedom,” suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan took time off their schedule to meet Meghan’s intimate pal Jessica Mulroney. However, the couple were joined for dinner by Jessica’s spouse, Ben. The book read, “In Sydney to take on engagements and host the fourth Invictus Games, Harry and Meghan managed to sneak out for an evening off with Jessica and Ben Mulroney, the latter of whom was covering the Games for Canada’s CTV network.
A real estate billionaire loaned them his home for an intimate and completely secret evening with a five-course meal prepared for a private chef.” During their time as active royals, the Sussexes embarked on countless royal trips. It is believed that their exploits earned them the popularity they enjoy to this day.
