Right now, fans are perhaps seeing WWE take a second shot at a storyline previously attempted back in 2009. For many months now, Austin Theory has been viewed as the protege of none other than Vince McMahon himself. This has drawn comparisons to when Drew McIntyre was ‘the chosen one’ back in 2009, though even McIntyre himself already feels WWE has planned things out better for Theory.
Drew McIntyre Thinks Austin Theory Is Phenomenal
While speaking with Sportskeeda, McIntyre would explain why he already feels that Theory’s push has been planned better than his initial push back in 2009.
“Yeah, I think this has been approached a lot better than mine. I was Vince’s Chosen One but only interacted with him maybe two or three times on television. Mr. McMahon has a very strong presence in this particular story with Theory. He’s not only thereby name, when Theory talks about him, he’s also physically there a lot of the time as part of the story and give Theory that rub. Again, he’s a young guy, but he looks phenomenal and he’s got a great attitude, he works incredibly hard and if he keeps on the path he’s on right now, which being around him the way I have, I’ve got a good feeling about him, he’s gonna do good for us in the future.”
Both Claimed The WWE Intercontinental Championship While Being Endorsed By Mr. McMahon
There is already comparisons to be made beyond being endorsed by Vince McMahon, as both Theory & McIntyre claimed the WWE Intercontinental Championship during these pushes. Theory claimed it by defeating Finn Balor, while McIntyre defeated John Morrison. McIntyre would go on to become a two time WWE Champion, NXT Champion, RAW Tag Team Champion, and a Royal Rumble winner.
Granted, many of these came after his release – where McIntyre boosted his stock in companies like Impact Wrestling, Evolve Wrestling, and Insane Championship Wrestling, claiming the top prize everywhere he went.
