Wheeler Yuta is here in NJPW to prove the power of the Blackpool Combat Club, and has a chance to start his debut in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament with some style. He’s facing down former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Robbie Eagles – who would love to earn a chance to claim Yuta’s ROH Pure Championship. Both men are affiliated with the CHAOS faction as well, adding some extra spice.
Robbie Eagles Potentially Earns A Title Shot
Yuta would show his pure wrestling skills to start, taking Eagles to the mat and into a front face lock. Eagles would show he’s no slouch in grappling either, but was unable to keep Yuta down. He made the mistake of taunting, before getting his hand snatched. Yuta turned this into a Bow & Arrow stretch, but Eagles slipped free.
Eagles would take a body slam and senton, before being able to hit a double arm drag and running hurricanrana. Spinning wheel kick to the chest would land, but Yuta only allowed a one count. Eagles would nail some midkicks to a kneeling Yuta, before dropping him with a running kick.
Yuta would almost catch Eagles with a German Suplex, before Eagles landed on his feet and hit the elbow strike to the neck. Eagles would set up the Ron Miller Special, before aiming a 450 Splash to the knee. Yuta avoided, before both men caught the other with a heavy strike for a double down.
Eagles would go for Ron Miller Special but was rolled up for a two count. Yuta blocked the Turbo Backpack and applied a standing Cloverleaf, before ending up in the Ron Miller Special. He was able to get the bottom rope, before hitting the Hammer & Anvil elbows. Seatbelt Pin was countered, before Eagles got a roll up victory.
TJP Teaches Master Wato A Lesson
TJP is no stranger to tournaments. He first competed in a NJPW tournament in 2004 when entered the Young Lion Cup and was involved in the 2011 Best of the Super Juniors. Master Wato meanwhile is entering his third BOSJ tournament, and looking to break past 8 points, which he scored in both 2020 & 2021. A victory would also be nice, but Wato at this stage of his career just needs to keep pushing.
TJP quickly attacked Wato to start this match, but Wato was able to regain his footing after a quick brawl. A springboard forearm took Wato down, before a backbreaker landed. Wato would hit the ropes and showed his agility with a running hurricanrana, before a jumping back kick. TJP would catch Wato with a superkick, before a running face wash in the corner.
Wato was stretched in the middle of the ring, before TJP applied a modified version of the Muta Lock. TJP would hit an armbreaker, before a headscissor takedown. Wato would nail a leaping leg lariat, before following up with a dropkick. TJP would survive a German Suplex, before getting the backdrop driver.
Tornado DDT would land, before TJP looked for a splash. Wato avoided this before hitting Recientemente. RPP would miss, and TJP hit the frog splash and applied Rings Of Saturn for the victory.
