It’s hard to deny the legendary status of Jeff Hardy in professional wrestling at this point. As both a tag team and singles wrestler, Hardy has claimed numerous championships over his career, within companies like WWE, Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor. However, despite his career in WWE – he was not exactly treated with respect during his last stint with the company.
Jeff Hardy Felt Degraded Being Made To Chase The 24/7 Championship
While speaking with Chris Jericho on the Talk Is Jericho podcast alongside brother Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy would lament having to speak poorly about WWE – but mentioned a moment where he felt incredibly disrespected. This came when he was told to join the chase for the 24/7 Championship – as Jeff would recount.
Jeff: “I feel bad about saying this ‘cause I’m so easy to work with. I’ll do pretty much whatever. But I was pretty crushed that day. I was like, okay this is it. I don’t know why I’m here…they’re really doing this to me. And that’s not an arrogant thing to say. I felt ashamed and like I shouldn’t be doing that. But I did it, and I was like, man what does this mean?”
Matt: “I did one of those too one time…before I left. I was running down a hall chasing someone, R-Truth or somebody…You know how those people are viewed. For them to put you in that category, it’s just like, come on man.”
Jericho would respond saying that it was a slap in the face, and Jeff agreed:
Jeff: “Yeah for sure. It felt that way…it felt a little degrading for sure.”
Now Happy On The AEW Roster
Jeff Hardy has since been released from WWE following an incident of him leaving a match during a house show. He would be signed to AEW once his 90 day non-compete clause was up, and has already made an impact in the company. Jeff would make it to the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament, ultimately losing to Adam Cole.
Alongside Matt Hardy, Jeff would claim a major win at Double or Nothing 2022 – defeating The Young Bucks in a tag team clash. Jeff Hardy is currently on the injured list however, recovering from lingering damage suffered in a crazy match with Darby Allin.
Should WWE have been using Hardy better than having him chase after the 24/7 Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
