In another celebrity case that had its own surprises and also went as expected, Todd and Julie Chrisley have been found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion. The verdict came down on the afternoon of June 7, 2022, and includes accountant Peter Tarantino. While the Chrisleys have a number of charges against them, Tarantino was charged with aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns.
Todd and Julie Chrisley Found GUILTY of BANK FRAUD and TAX EVASION – Accountant Also Found Guilty
Given the evidence against them as well as the testimony that actually made their money moves look worse, it wasn’t surprising that the Georgia jury came back with a guilty verdict. One piece of damning evidence involved an email sent by Todd Chrisley to a partner involved in the scheme.
The partner explained that they could fake a bank account with $4 million in it without having an account with the bank. Obviously, this was like David Blaine-level magic to Chrisley who replied back with “You are a f**king genious [sic]!!!! Just make it show 4 mil+.”
That was their scam: getting millions in loans from banks and dancing around federal income taxes. The trio was able to gain $30 million in loans and even dodged a $2 million state claim involving their suspect tax records in October 2019.
Todd Chrisley was convicted of bank fraud, tax fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Julie was hit with the same charges including wire fraud. Both Todd and Julie could face up to 30 years behind bars. Their lawyer Bruce Morris told TMZ they are “disappointed in the verdict” and are planning to appeal.
