In Jacksonville, Florida, Aiden Fucci (16) pleaded guilty to murdering schoolmate Tristyn Bailey. At the time of his death, Bailey was only 13-years-old. Fucci’s sentencing will take place in March or April 2023 and the teenager faces 40 years to life behind bars.

The case of Bailey’s death involved home security camera footage of Bailey walking with Fucci at around 1:30 AM on May 9, 2021. Two hours later, that same footage shows Aiden Fucci walking back the way the two came alone. In tow he had white Nikes belonging to Bailey.
By 10 AM, Tristyn’s parents reported her as missing but later that evening at 6 PM, the body of a middle school-aged girl is found with 114 stab wounds in the woods Fucci and Bailey walked to hours earlier. Authorities identified the body as Tristyn’s and tracked down Fucci who lived close to the crime scene.
Aiden Fucci was held at an interview room in the St. John’s Sheriff’s Office with his parents. A search of the Fucci residence turned a bloody pair of white Nikes, a bloody t-shirt, a knife sheath, and a wet pair of jeans. As you expected, Fucci was charged with second-degree murder the following day.
The weeks following the charge moved rapidly as Fucci pleaded not guilty of first-degree murder. The charge was upgraded later in May 2021 when one of Fucci’s friends said that the 16-year-old discussed having stabbed a person in the woods. The case was already state news and admitting to such an act was obviously going to see he linked to a major murder story—as the prime suspect.
With the friend’s statement and the evidence gathered, the prosecution had enough to aim for first-degree murder. Another blow to the team saw Fucci’s mother Crystal Smith arrested for evidence tampering after she allegedly washing Aiden’s clothes before going in to be questioned.
