The months-long search for a Florida murderer ended miles away at the bottom of a river in Missouri. Sherron David McCombs Jr. (22) had been on the run after killing two people in Tampa Bay. He was accused of murder on November 1, 2021, and January 3, 2022. Tampa Bay’s Crime Stoppers placed an award of up to $5,000 out for information resulting in McCombs’ arrest.
Murderer of Two People in Florida Drowns in Missouri’s Current River While on the Run
The details on the whole thing are pretty sparse. He was accused of the two murders above and was suspected of being in South Carolina in late May 2022. Clark Parrott, the Public Information Officer for the Missouri State Highway Patrol points to the belief that McCombs was in Memphis, Tennessee working and went to the river with some friends.
An emergency call was made after Sherron David McCombs Jr panicked and went under. His friends referred to him by a different name and nothing matched for police. According to Parrott:
“He had been using a fake name with them [his acquaintances] because none of the information they had checked out with us. So, one of our troopers has a portable fingerprint ID machine, and they were able to ID him and as soon as they did that’s when it set off all kinds of alarms as to who this gentleman was.”
McCombs was on the run long enough to be long gone from Florida but there’s the question of how he made it to southeastern Missouri. Did he have help along the way or was he able to evade police and keen eyes in a cross-state escape for several months? Does it even matter at this point?
Let us know your theories. How did someone who murdered two people in Florida evade capture in his state, escape through a few other states, and end up in the state where he died? Drop those theories and examples down below.
