It’s not a great time for the D’Angelo family on NXT 2.0 right now. Despite a recent major victory at NXT 2.0: In Your House, where they absorbed Legado Del Fantasma into their ranks, it’s been misfortune ever since. D’Angelo was reportedly injured on the first NXT 2.0 house show since 2020, and now Troy “Two Dimes” Donovan has been released from WWE.
Troy Donovan Released From WWE Due To A “Policy Issue’
This news broke very recently, with his release being due to a ‘policy issue’. It’s expected he will be brought back within a year, which leads many to wonder just what this policy issue could be. Many are speculating that this could be steroid related, with WWE simply asking Donovan to get clean of that before making his return.
Right now, the next two weeks of NXT 2.0 action has been pre-taped, with Tony D’Angelo set to challenge for the NXT North American Championship. Donovan will be in his corner for that match, as well as appearing in tag team action. After that, Donovan will be written off TV in some way – which will be easy given the mob related storyline he was involved in.
Despite only having a few matches on WWE TV, Donovan showed some clear potential. Many agree that the six man tag team match between The D’Angelo Family & Legado Del Fantasma stole the show at In Your House, with Donovan playing a key role in that match.
Commenting On His Release -Says This Was Simply ‘A Bump In The Road”
Following this release, Donovan would comment the following on Twitter– promising that he will be back, and that this was simply a bump in the road.
“Thank you to everyone who’s reached out. Mistakes happen and lessons are learned. A bump in the road doesn’t define me though. I’ll be back.”
Donovan had only officially joined WWE back in April, making this one of the shortest times between hiring and release that we’ve ever seen. Do you expect Donovan to be brought back to WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
