In the past months, Queen Elizabeth II has been faced with mobility issues and was advised by Doctors to stop horse riding, which is one of the Monarch’s favorite activities. However, the Queen leaves many in shock as she returns to horseback riding.
Queen Elizabeth’s Mobility Issues Kept Her From Attending Important Events
During the nine months since her doctor’s warning, the Queen missed a number of events and had members of the royal family step in for her. She was also absent at some Platinum Jubilee events that were held earlier this month and when she was present, she had a walking stick for support. However, the 96 year-old monarch dumped the stick recently when she met with Archbishop of Canterbury—Justin Welby.
Queen Elizabeth Enjoys One Of Her Favorite Activities Despite Mobility Problems
The Queen has always loved horseback riding ever since she got her first pony in 1929. She owns a number of race horses and even made sure not to miss the Horse race that was held some months ago despite her mobility issues. Since 1988, the Queen has won £8.7 million from horse racing. Out of 3,421 horse races the Queen has been in, she won 566.
One of the events of her platinum jubilee celebration was the Epsom Derby and she had to follow the horse racing on television. She was in “comfy clothes” as she had been described to be. Princess Anne stood in for the Queen instead and was seen smiling and waving at the crowd gracefully like the Queen would have done. Five of the Queen’s former racehorses were paraded at the event and there were hats that were inspired by her reign as Queen for seven decades.
The Queen decided to ride her favorite animal around her Windsor estate. An insider said that after nine long months away from her horse’s back, “the Queen has enjoyed being on her horse again, Riding again is a wonderful sign after those worried about her health.” The insider added that, “to do so at 96 is pretty remarkable.”
