The couple have not looked back ever since having managed to have two children together: Archie and Lilibet. During the course of that process, however, things have not been so smooth sailing.
Their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview which included accusations of racism, as well as Meghan being allegedly driven to the point of having suicidal thoughts, suggested a relationship that was being seriously tested.
And their recent return to the UK for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee was characterised by a chorus of boos during the ‘Service of Thanksgiving ‘ at St. Paul’s Cathedral. That mood only went on to justify the need for something to change.
A source said: “Harry had to pick a side — and there was only one side he was ever going to choose.”
Now that Harry has chosen Meghan, there are obvious question marks over whether or not the rest of the Royal family can put aside their differences and come together for a reconciliation.
Reports indicate that the couple could attend this summer’s big birthday bash that is set to be hosted by the Queen in honour of William.
And if that does end up happening, then there is another opportunity for the two brothers to reunite. And that is something that is not out of the question.
The source added: “But I also find it impossible to believe there is anything these two brothers could say about each other that means they will never find a way to repair things.
“They were too close and have been through too much together.” The response on social media was mixed.
While a certain subset of people recognised that Meghan would have had an influence, the very fact of the matter is that she did give up some things too.
One person wrote: “Another lie. Meghan Markle sacrificed her acting career to marry Prince Harry and move to London. She was a self made millionaire before marrying into the royal family.”
