Kate Middleton’s portrait has not gone down very well, as she was referred to as a ‘boring doll.’
Art Critic BLASTS Kate Middleton’s Portrait Face – ‘Dead As A Dodo, Kate Looks Like A ‘Strangely Boring Doll’
According to reports, the artist Jamie Coreth had painted the commissioned portrait which was unveiled at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. In the picture here, we can see that Prince William and Kate Middleton are standing side by side.
The former is wearing a traditional black suit, while the latter is dressed in green. They have a serious and solemn expression on their face. Despite the couple having been pleased with the portrait, the response towards it has not been so pleasant.
This was on the basis that Kate did not come across well, which has been suggested in the past with claims that she has a lack of personality.
Irrespective of whether or not you agree with that statement, there is no denying that the painting failed to cut the mustard. And this was indicated through the comments that followed in response.
A.N. Wilson, who happens to be an art critic, had this to say: “[It was] as dead as a dodo. Kate looks like a ‘strangely boring doll’ as the portrait doesn’t show her ‘inner magic’.”
Much in the same way, the portrait was also criticised on the basis that it had attempted to showcase the couple as an advertisement for what the monarchy should look like, as opposed to making sure that their personality came across.
And at a time where polls suggest the monarchy is more popular than ever, this was hardly a good look for the institution.
Rachel Campbell-Johnston, another art critic, stated: “The couple pose like mannequins made to advertise a modern monarchy. But if you want to see them in replica you would probably do better to go to Madame Tussauds.”
It is safe to say that the general consensus was that the portrait did not go down very well. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
