One of Meghan Markle’s biggest critics has been slammed after claiming that the Royal family should be ‘whiter than white.’
Meghan Markle’s Biggest Critic BLASTED For Claiming Royal Family Should Be ‘Whiter Than White’-‘And You Wonder Why Media Has It Out For #MeghanMarkle’
The critic in question (Dan Wootton) happened to be addressing Prince Charles’ scandal in which he was alleged to have accepted donations from a foundation that had belonged to a politician from Qatar.
And in response, Dan was of the view that the Royal family should remain out of politics.
In his comments, he said: “As a proud monarchist who staunchly believes the Royal Family must remain politically neutral and whiter than white, I’m desperately worried about what could transpire upon the Queen’s death.”
That choice of language did not go down very well for the following reasons. Dan’s critics argued that his use of ‘white’ was associated with honesty, which had inadvertently implied that the term was racist.
Therefore, the implication was that the term ‘black’ had the opposite connotations. And given that Meghan Markle had become the first bi-racial person to enter into the Royal family, those comments did not sit well with Meghan’s supporters.
One person wrote: “Royal Family must remain…. ‘Whiter than White’ and you wonder why Media has it out for #MeghanMarkle.
“Yes the phrase is a normalised racist trope which perceives ‘White’ as honest & moral in direct contrast to ‘Black’ perceived as dishonest & immoral.”
Nevertheless, not everyone took Dan’s comments that way. For some, it had to be read in light of the context, which was the claim that Charles had not been acting in an honest manner.
Not only that, but his comments did not refer to Meghan herself. With that being said, others hit back. Another person wrote: “It’s all about context and [Dan Wootton] used it right.
“The [royal family] for their own survival need to be seen to be whiter than white aka they need to be seen wholesome and above reproach.”
In hindsight, perhaps Dan could have used some other words. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
