JD McDonaugh is here in NXT 2.0, after being cast away from NXT UK in a ‘Loser Leaves Town’ match against former NXT UK Champion Ilja Dragunov. He made an immediate impact, attacking Bron Breakker and sending the champion through a table. However, if he wants to get to the main event of NXT 2.0 in a hurry, he needs to get past Cameron Grimes – who stands in his way here tonight.
Cameron Grimes Came To Fight Tonight Against JD McDonaugh
McDonaugh shot for a single leg takedown to start this match, but Grimes would shut this right down. A shoulder tackle from McDonaugh down to the mat, before Grimes would look for the O’Connor Roll – and was dropped. McDonaugh nailed a kick to the chest before a forearm smash, only to take a roundhouse kick from Grimes.
Grimes would whip McDonaugh hard into the corner, before hitting the big back body drop. McDonaugh would go after the legs of Grimes, and was able to trip him before hitting a slingshot corkscrew senton. Grimes would end up in the single leg crab, and would kick McDonaugh off before ending up in an ankle lock.
Grimes would be able to get free, and hit the crossbody splash off the top rope. Joe Gacy was watching this match from up in the rafters, with the Dyad nowhere to be found. Back in the ring, McDonaugh would keep the pressure on Grimes – applying a double shoulder claw – and nailing a knee to the midsection the moment Grimes fought free.
Never Bet Against The Irish Ace
A suplex would land, and McDonaugh floated into a pinfall for a two count. Sleeper hold was applied, but Grimes was able to fling McDonaugh off. Grimes would hit the running dropkick to the jaw, before McDonaugh rolled to the outside. He’d trip Grimes, and smash the leg off the ring post – and followed up with a chop block in the ring.
Grimes would fight back to his feet and hit some running forearms and the spin out slam. He’d be unable to follow up with a pinfall, the damage to the knee showing. McDonaugh would shoot for the single leg, but took a knee to jaw. He’d roll to the floor, but Grimes tried to follow with a PK – only to end up trapped in the ropes.
