Elon Musk is firing back at claims that he had a sexual relationship with friend and fellow billionaire Sergey Brin’s wife, Nicole Shanahan. A recent report for the Wall Street Journal alleged that Musk began sleeping with the Google founder’s wife in late 2021 after they had been experiencing trouble in their marriage.
Their illicit affair is said to have been the catlyst for Brin filing for divorce in January. It was even alleged that Musk dropped to one knee begging for Brin’s forgiveness at a party several months ago. The report suggests that Brin publicly accepted Musk’s apology but there was no hope for their personal and business relationships to be revived.

But Elon Musk has adamantly denied all of those claims, and insists that not only has he never had a sexual encounter with Nicole Shanahan, but that he hasn’t had sex at all in quite some time. “This is total bs” Elon said in a tweet on July 24. “Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night. I’ve only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic.” For further clarification, Elon shared a separate tweet that said, “Haven’t even had sex in ages (sigh)”.
If Elon’s apparent admission of celibacy sounds a bit peculiar, it’s probably because he’s been bouncing from one romantic partner to the next for months. He recently welcomed a second child with former flame, Grimes, and he secretly welcomed a set of twins with executive Shivon Zilis only a few short weeks earlier. The father of ten has been linked to a bevy of women and has developed a bit of a reputation for himself.
Sergey Brin, on the other hand, is currently involved in a high-stakes divorce with Shanahan. With an estimated net worth of $93 billion, his estranged ex is reportedly seeking over $1 billion from the divorce. While a prenuptial agreement is in place, she is arguing that he forced her to sign it under duress while she was pregnant with their daughter.
The lengthy Wall Street Journal piece about Musk and Shanahan’s alleged affair cites one of her ‘close friends’ as the source. Musk has seemingly taken umbrage with the publication, tweeting, “WSJ has run so many bs hit pieces on me and Tesla I’ve lost count. It’s embarrassing for them, frankly,” before adding, “They once wrote an article saying [the] FBI was about to arrest me, so I called the FBI to ask what’s up and they said the WSJ article was total bs. Just more shortseller fud.”
