With news of Riddle’s storyline injury (hip pointer) keeping him out of SummerSlam and their match canceled, Seth Rollins took to social media to explain how some things are out of his control.
Triple H responded in what many fans are taking as a tease Rollins will have a surprise opponent. While Triple H is rumored to have something big planned, but only if it fits into the event and makes sense, this could be it.
More than that, it postpones Rollins getting to bring out the real Riddle.
This was an angle that was being worked leading up to their match, but it’s also something fans have been wondering since Riddle adopted Randy Orton’s moves and lost himself in the booking.

Bringing out the real Riddle
In what looks like a storyline interview, Rollins gave an interview with Metro and he talked about wanting to see Riddle be an individual again.
“That’s the thing – I wanna know who this guy is. I wanna know who is beyond being just Randy’s bro, you know? Obviously the audience took a big liking to him based on his relationship with Randy, but now we don’t know if Randy’s ever coming back. We got no clue what Randy’s medical situation is.”.
“He’s out here having to stand by himself, but he’s still out here doing Randy’s moves, doing Randy’s poses. I’d like to know, who is Riddle? Who is this Original Bro? I’d love to see something original about him. I’m gonna push that out of him one way or another. If he doesn’t wanna respond, that he’s gonna fall by the wayside or he’s gonna rise to the occasion – we shall see.”
Rollins intent was to push Riddle into doing something besides Orton’s moves, and with Riddle’s character becoming a walking homage and losing his edge, it was a change that we think is needed.
The Original Bro was lost after he adopted so much of Orton’s moves during his hero worship, but it’s something we could see resurface not that Triple H is running the show.
Creative adjustment
While Riddle’s injury is listed as a creative adjustment, we’re curious if it’s to give him a break and rework his character to be less Orton related, or if it’ll mean Rollins will continue a frustrated star storyline he had previous to WrestleMania?
Either one is a possibility, but given Rollins wanting to see the real Original Bro, we think there’s a good chance Triple H will hit the reset on that and return Riddle to being himself like when he was in NXT.
