It’s getting impossible to deny that Jon Moxley is the wrestler of the year for 2022. Between his excellent matches in AEW and dominance in GCW – Moxley is someone who has been showing up in every single match. He most recently defended the GCW World Championship against the fan favourite of Effy – and his next challenger is set to be Nick Gage. However, Gage had to put something else on the line to get this match.
Nick Gage To Put Career On The Line Against Jon Moxley
Following Mox putting Effy down, Nick Gage would hit the ring to a massive reaction from the GCW fans. Gage was the one who Moxley won the GCW World Championship from in the first place, and they’ve been rivals since their time together in CZW. There’s respect to be found between them, but Moxley isn’t going to just hand over a title shot.
He would demand that Nick Gage puts his career on the line if he wants another title shot, and Gage would accept these terms. It’s not often you see Championship vs. Career matches like this, and it’s going to be something that will be interesting to see play out. Moxley referred to Gage as a ‘dog who needs to be put down’, firmly setting him up to play the heel in this coming encounter.
Fans have been curious as to how the dominant reign of Moxley would end, and these stakes seem to indicate that Gage will be the one to take the belt from Moxley. Despite slowing down in the ring in recent years, it’s unlikely that he is set to retire just yet – with GCW’s success almost hinging on the cult status of Nick Gage and his fanbase.
AEW Won’t Want Jon Moxley Losing A Match Before All Out 2022
A date has not been announced for this title defense, but it’s unlikely to occur before AEW’s All Out PPV. Moxley is set to face CM Punk in a unification match, to decide who the true AEW World Champion is. AEW will not be keen on having Moxley potentially get injured in a violent match before this, nor would they want Moxley losing a match ahead of one of their biggest matches of the year.
