Back at AEW Revolution 2020, Jon Moxley would defeat Chris Jericho to become the AEW World Champion. Jericho never looked for his rematch, until tonight. Over two years later, and it’s finally time for Moxley vs. Jericho II – with the Interim AEW World Championship on the line. However, Moxley doesn’t want Jericho who is claiming to be a sports entertainer, he doesn’t want The Painmaker or The Wizard, he wants the last graduate of The Hart Dungeon. Jericho was asked to bring Lionheart out to play tonight – and really give Moxley a challenge.
Chris Jericho Turns The Clock Back
There was no Judas playing tonight – with Jericho pulling out his classic music and attire, proving that Lionheart was here tonight. He’d flip Moxley off to begin, showing the modern attitude of Jericho is still here. Lionheart would kick things off with some quick arm drags, throwing Moxley off his game.
Headlock would be applied, before Moxley would counter and take Jericho down to the mat – and would be countered into a headscissor. Jericho showed some submission skills he learned down in Mexico, bending and stretching Moxley on the mat. Moxley would have his earring ripped out of the ring, prompting a ‘You sick fuck’ chant from the crowd.
Triangle Dropkick would send Moxley out to the floor, and he’d be bleeding. It’s no shock to see him bleeding in an AEW ring though – it seems to happen weekly, and just fires Moxley up. In the ring, Jericho would apply a version of the Camel Clutch – cranking back on the chin of Jon Moxley. A cocky pinfall would follow, before Moxley would be caught into a double underhook backbreaker.
Moxley would be able to look for an armbar, and got the full extension briefly before Jericho would fight free. The ankle lock would be applied, before Moxley hit the German Suplex. Jericho would respond with one of his own, before a lariat into the corner. Jericho would set up the super rana, and sent Moxley crashing to the mat.
Jericho would wrap the knee around the ringpost and applied the Figure Four Leg Lock. Moxley would be held for four seconds, but was able to bait Jericho into a crossface in the middle of the ring. Jericho would break free and applied The Liontamer.
Jon Moxley Forces Chris Jericho To Tap Out
Moxley would fight to remain conscious, and would be able to fire himself up and back into the fight. Jericho would stomp the face of Moxley as he rolled the hold over – before putting back into the hold. Moxley was showing his pain tolerance, as this hold usually makes someone tap out – but he’s not giving up after minutes in the hold.
He’d finally reach the bottom rope, and Jericho was convinced he won – but would stomp away on the back of Moxley. This one spilled to the outside, and Moxley would turn it into a fight. He’d soar from the top rope with an ankle handle, and punch Jericho in the mouth. Back in the ring, Jericho would expose some turnbuckles to distract the referee.
Sammy Guevara threw the bat to Jericho – and Moxley would be hit in the head – and was still able to kick out! Judas Effect would land, and Moxley would be the first man to ever kick out of that strike from Jericho. Jericho was in shock, and Moxley shoved him into the exposed turnbuckle. He’d end up in the Bulldog Choke, but Moxley would be countered and put into the Liontamer.
Moxley would adjust and apply the choke again, and forced a bloody Chris Jericho to tap out. It was an absolute war of a match, and Jericho has no shame in beating beaten in a match like this.
CM Punk Makes The Save
After the bell, Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager would attack Moxley – and Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Eddie Kingston & Oirtz making the save. Jericho would look to hit Moxley with the AEW World Championship – and CM Punk’s music woulc hit. The true champion is back, and was cleaning house. Moxley is only the Interim champion, and Punk would clear the ring.
With just Punk & Moxley left in the ring – we could be seeing the two men who will meet in the main event of All Out. There’s two champions, and the belts will need to be unified at some point. Moxley would walk away with the belt over his shoulder – showing zero respect.
