We all know him from action movies where he usually plays some action figure. Regardless of if you know him from Venom, Warrior, or Mad Max, all of his roles include physical readiness.
However, as it turns out, he had an ace up his sleeve all the time. Aside from having an athletic body, he is indeed good in martial arts.
Tom Hardy Jokingly Joins A Jiu-Jitsu Competition And Wins Two Gold Medals – He’s A Natural!
This time he proves his skills by joining a charity Jiu-Jitsu Championship. According to unofficial sources, he did not even plan to join the competition. He just sort of happened to be in the right place at the right time.
During the REORG Open charity Jiu-Jitsu championship, Tom Hardy happened to obtain two gold medals. Once more he showed great sportsmanship, great skills, athleticism, and physicality. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu comes in two official ‘forms’.BJJ Gi and BJJ No-Gi.
While Gi includes grappling while using uniforms, No-Gi is a similar technique, but without uniform. While in the first you can grab onto your opponent’s uniform and perform certain moves, in the latter that cannot be done.
Tom Hardy is a blue belt in the Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This can be seen in the photos and videos that emerged from the event. He is wearing his uniform with a blue belt strapped around it.
He won over his first opponent by performing an armbar submission. In the videos, we can see how he methodically and slowly works his way leading up to the armbar position. This indicates that he had been training for quite some time.
The Venom actor won the second match via submission as well. He is famous for many mainstream roles throughout his career. One of them is Bane, a villain in the Batman series.
“Imagine showing up to your local jiu-jitsu competition and having to fight Bane.” – one Twitter user commented on the photos of the event.
Tom Hardy did not only compete in the event. He also met with fans, gave a couple of young fans a hug, signed photos, and spoke to the attendees.
Hardy is not new in the REORG Charity organization. He is working with them on regular basis. He teaches Jiu Jitsu to people struggling with physical and mental problems.
In cases like this, where the main goal of the event is to raise as much money as possible, Tom Hardy takes place because he knows that his presence will considerably boost the interest in the event.
He got into martial arts once he found out about his role in the Warrior movie. He learned Jiu Jitsu with REORG and does everything he can to ‘repay’ for the service.
