In early August 2022, an Arizona man was arrested for a fatal hit and run. Not only that but he is alleged to have stomped on the downed man after the vehicular attack.
Arizona Man Charged with First-Degree Murder After Hitting Victim Christopher Heimer with Car and Stomping Him Afterward
The Mesa PD reported that just after 12:30 PM on August 12, they responded to a car crash on E. Alder Mesa where they found Christopher Heimer (63). He was later pronounced dead but it was after witness interviews and surveillance footage that the police department found out what happened to Heimer.
Witness said that the attacker, John Laguna (61) blew his horn in front of Heimer’s house until the eventual victim came outside. Heimer was walking westerly on Alder while Laguna was driving east on the same road. Laguna is said to have swerved off road and hit the victim.
Heimer landed in the yard of an apartment while Laguna continued down the sidewalk ramming through mailboxes. However, he would double back and climb out of his car to stomp on the injured victim’s head. Laguna went to flee when a bystander shot at the ground and prevented him from moving. Police would arrive on the scene and arrest him.
In speaking with authorities, Laguna admitted to knowing the deceased as Heimer would allow him to park his car at his home since Laguna was homeless. It is believed that Laguna’s ex-girlfriend was living with Heimer at the time.
John Laguna was charged with first-degree murder and jailed on $2 million bail.
