“This you?” is a response to people who speak a little too loudly and spicily against certain things while engaging in or benefiting from those things. This brings us to Luke Bowen, the former political director for Texas Right to Life, an anti-abortion activist group—who was arrested in August 2022 in a child solicitation sting.
Former High-Ranking Texas Anti-Abortionist Arrested in Child Solicitation Sting
The Montgomery County Courier gained access to the criminal complaint against Bowen which shows that he was arrested on August 3, 2022 for knowingly soliciting “a minor, to meet the Defendant, with the intent that, P. Minchew, would engage in sexual contact or sexual intercourse or deviate sexual intercourse with the Defendant.”
Bowen allegedly used an online service to solicit the minor. Interestingly, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office sent out a warning about “heavy law enforcement presence” in Conroe—Bowen’s city of residence—that same day.
The lawyer for Luke Bowen spoke to the Houston Chronicle and said the following:
“This investigation revolves around a fictitious alleged minor created by law enforcement and posted on the Internet. There is not a real victim in the case.”
Mind you, in May 2008, police in Tallahassee, Florida found that using civilians as bait in stings? Not a good idea at all. It’s how Florida ended up with Rachel’s Law and later on, in North Dakota, Andrew’s Law was put into place when drug stings went bad.
Using an actual minor as bait in a sting to catch people who had the intent of having sex with a minor? It sounds like a worse idea than civilians in drug stings.
After the arrest, Texas Right to Life told the Chronicle that Bowen had been canned on August 3, 2022. The former political director—who pleaded not guilty—was slapped with a $10,000 fine and was released upon posting bond. He stands to face up to 20 years behind bars if he is convicted.
