Right now, there is a lot of rumblings of what is to become of CM Punk in AEW. This past weekend, he would win his second AEW World Championship in the main event of All Out, and just minutes later would go on a tirade backstage. He’d rip into Colt Cabana, Hangman Page, & The Young Bucks – all while Tony Khan sat with a nervous look on his face.
Is AEW Going To Let Ace Steel & CM Punk Go?
Punk & friend Ace Steel would end up in a fight with Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks backstage, with Steel reportedly throwing a chair at Nick Jackson and biting Omega in the chaos. With everything that has gone down, it’s expected that if this is not some elaborate plan to get people talking – there will be consequences. There has already been reports from the like of Dave Meltzer saying that Steel is done with the company after this, and Punk could be done as well.
There have been reports of Punk potentially being stripped of the title, or outright fired over his actions this past weekend. Many fans would agree with this stance, as it’s high time Tony Khan took some control of his company – as things have spiralled far out of control. No matter how big of a star, there’s no room for the actions of Punk this past weekend, and AEW was doing fine before him – and will do fine after him.
What If The Belt Is Vacated?
If the belt ends up vacant, the plan from AEW would be obvious. You have MJF as the #1 contender, and the always reliable Jon Moxley ready to step in as an opponent for him. They have had a feud in the past which ended after one match, and giving MJF a victory over Moxley would be a perfect way to cement him as the top star of the company.
There would also be the chance of running a battle royale to name the opponent of MJF, but it’s expected that if Punk is to face punishments – AEW won’t wait until Full Gear to crown a new champion. It’d happen at Grand Slam at the latest, which puts Khan on the clock to figure this situation out.
