Tonight, we get a rematch from one of the best matches from ROH Death Before Dishonor 2022. On that night, Wheeler Yuta was able to successfully defend the ROH Pure Rules Championship against Daniel Garcia. However, since then – Garcia has arguably levelled up in the ring with a series of massive matches against Bryan Danielson.
No longer clouded in delusions of being a sports entertainer, he intends to prove his skills as a professional wrestler tonight – and have that belt that proves he’s the best technical wrestler in the game today. Garcia was told by Jericho that he fights alone tonight, like Jericho did at All Out when he defeated Danielson.
Daniel Garcia Uses His First Rope Break Early, Launches Wheeler Yuta With Huge German Suplex
We’d get a run down on the Pure Rules, with this match having three rope breaks per wrestler, and just one closed fish punch allowed for each wrestler. Last time, Yuta won without using a single rope break, as instructed by William Regal. Yuta would go after the ankle of Garcia, who was able to wrestle to freedom.
The crowd was behind their hometown boy of Garcia, cheering as they locked up hard and grappled around the ring. Yuta would lock the arm of Garcia up, forcing Garcia to use his first rope break. Garcia made the most of it, and would use the chance to throw Yuta over the ropes with a big hip toss.
Back in the ring, Yuta would trade strikes with Garcia in the middle of the ring, with Garcia taking him down and hitting a PK for a two count. Yuta would hit the Manhattan Drop into the enziguri, before the flying elbow for a two count. Garcia would hit the backdrop driver and a heavy lariat for the two count.
Yuta would start to hit some German Suplexes, and Garcia had to fight to break the grip before hitting the suplexes himself. Garcia would lose control and took another suplex, before regaining control. The suplexes kept on coming, before Yuta was launched onto his head.
Both men would fight back to their feet, before Yuta would expose the steel of the turnbuckle and stepped onto the head of Garcia into the steel. Regal didn’t just teach Yuta clean wrestling, but also how to be a cunning villain. Garcia would yank Yuta into the supports next, before looking for the superplex into the ring.
Both would be down after the superplex landed, before Garcia looked for a KO after some stiff palm strikes. Yuta would find his feet at eight, before being locked into the Dragon Tamer. Regal would be let down to see Yuta his first rope break, but knew he’d have done the same.
Yuta would use his one closed first punch, showing his anger – and got warned. Garcia would again apply the Dragon Tamer, but Yuta wos able to wrestle out into the bulldog choke this time. Seatbelt Clutch was attempted, but Yuta couldn’t get the full application and Garcia fought free.
Dragon Tamer would be applied again and Garcia would force Yuta to tap out – meaning we have a new ROH Pure Wrestling Champion. Without the need of the Jericho Appreciation Society, he claimed the massive victory. Bryan Danielson would come to the ring to support Yuta and Garcia after a hard fought victory, and put the belt around the waist of Garcia himself.
This would upset Chris Jericho, who meets Danielson next week in the tournament of champions. Will Danielson be able to defeat Jericho? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
