This summer has been a busy one for the U.S Customs and Border Protection agency as they scored the biggest cocaine bust in Laredo, TX in the past two decades. According to authorities, the trailer of coke arrived at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge on August 26, 2022 and drug-sniffing dogs were instantly drawn to it.
“Colossal, Record Setting Seizure” Coke Bust in Texas Results in Over 1,500 Pounds Being Seized – Valued at $11.8 MILLION
The cocaine was packaged with 1,935 packages of what was supposed to baby wipes. According to Director Randy Howe of the Laredo Office of Field Operations wing of Border Protection, $11.8 million in coke was seized.
This bust was preceded by another hefty seizure a couple of days later at the Laredo World Trade Port of Entry. In two separate busts, 1,000 pounds or $8 million in coke was seized. That same day, authorities scored $4.5 million in cocaine or about 545 pounds—three busts in a day.
Of this bust, Director Howe said:
“Officers assigned to CBP cargo facilities ensure effective border security by preventing and countering the flow of suspected narcotics entering the country. This seizure is a prime example of border security management and how it helps prevent dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities.”
