The scene is a familiar one: a tractor trailer at a Texas Port of Entry. Last time, it was 60 wheels of undeclared cheese in El Paso, however, CBP officers posted at the Del Rio Port of Entry at the Del Rio International Bridge ran into $11.9 million worth of meth.
Texas Border Patrol Officers Seize $11.9 Million in Meth – Largest Seizure in Del Rio Port of Entry’s History
Early September 2022 was very busy for the Customs and Border Protection agency. On September 5, a Kenworth tractor with diesel tank reservoir containers rolled into the Del Rio International Bridge entry point.
While the agents have seen almost every method possible for smuggling, some methods are more common than others. The diesel tank gambit was a little razzle-dazzle as far as smuggling by land goes.
However, even this method didn’t work as it was pulled for further inspection with a contraband-sniffing canine and their non-intrusive inspection system or NII. Officers discovered 320 packages with 1,337 pounds of methamphetamine.
The street value of the load of meth is around $11.9 million. Port Director Liliana Flores weighed in on the historic bust for the Del Rio Port of Entry:
“This is a massive seizure of methamphetamine, it is the largest in the history of the port and it reflects the steadfast commitment of our officers to the CBP border security mission and their effective application of technology, training and experience.”
