In Indiana, a woman was arrested for texting a man claiming to need help, holding him hostage, and beating him over several hours. The goal for Mariah Conn-Wilhelm (28) was $17,000 that she believed the victim could withdraw.
The victim’s ordeal began when Conn-Wilhelm sent a text at around 2 AM that she and her baby were in danger on September 7, 2022.
He headed over to Conn-Wilhelm’s apartment on the 4th Street in Mishawaka to check up on her and was struck in the head with a frying pan when he entered her home.
Mariah and her accomplice tied the 68-year-old up with different restraints and proceeded to beat him with different blunt instruments for hours.

During the beating, Conn-Wilhelm and her friend held a gun to the victim and demanded that he sell his property and come up with $17,000.
The victim managed to contact a buyer and was told to make sure it was a check for $17,000. The buyer reported that the whole situation and the victim “sounded odd” from their end.
He would manage to escape and flee into a neighbor’s apartment until law enforcement arrived.
The victim was found naked, covered in bruises, and wearing a ball gag. Of the more serious injuries, he suffered a broken arm and some busted ribs.
While the victim’s word and their neighborly relationship with Conn-Wilhelm were enough to tie her to the attack, investigators searched her apartment and found blood belonging to the victim, restraints used in the attack, a clump of hair belonging to the victim, and meth.
It’s always meth.
Mariah Conn-Wilhelm confessed to the entire situation and was booked into St. Joseph County Jail later that day on multiple charges: armed robbery, intimidation, robbery resulting in bodily injury, neglect of a dependent, criminal confinement, possession of meth, and battery resulting in serious bodily injury.
She is still being held on $30,000 bond and is scheduled for a September 27 court appearance.
