In a particularly light, brief report for such a big drug bust, the Birmingham Police Department managed to sweep $855,240 in marijuana on September 14, 2022. This is one of the biggest single-day busts for the BPD’s Narcotics Unit.

There are some questions about this bust as that’s a ton of weed to just have at a residence. That’s a calls-from-concerned-citizens amount. It just raises suspicion—especially if the arrested drug traffickers’ actions result in an abnormal amount of traffic in the neighborhood.
Of course, those details aren’t specified. What we do know is that a joint task force involving the Birmingham PD’s Narcotics Unit, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the DEA had a search warrant for a residence on David Drive NE and turned up a marijuana bonanza.
Also as a result of the bust, several people were arrested and hit with trafficking marijuana charges. In addition to the drugs, eight guns were confiscated.
The bust comes as the authorities around the U.S deal with an aggressive uptick in fentanyl trafficking, deaths related to fentanyl, and a push for marijuana legalization.
