Over the last couple of years, Impact Wrestling has made huge strides with the talent they’ve added to their roster as well as working with other promotions like AEW.
While they’re often forgotten an general fans think they went out of business, Impact Wrestling have their loyal fanbase and have carved out a niche as a good alternative from WWE and AEW.
Scott D’Amore Shares his Thoughts on Moving Impact Wrestling Pay-Per-Views to Friday Nights
They maintain great in ring actins while balancing old school styles with the new, and aren’t afraid to have their silly moments by poking fun at themselves or other companies.
While their recent rise, which has seen some of the highest buy rates in company history, isn’t on part to AEW’s, it’s been steady and they’ve made some interesting choices.
Trying a new day
One of those was to move their pay-per-views and live events from Saturdays to Fridays, and Scott explained the reasoning to Wrestling Observer’s Josh Nason.
“It is a busy night but one of the things is the way people consume content differently in this day and age. You see sometimes what we think is competition isn’t as much competition as we really think because there are people that are going to watch it. This isn’t as much of a live content-consuming world as it used to be.
“There is great stuff out there on Friday nights,’ he continued. “I’ll be totally honest with you, Josh, we might turn around and look at this in a handful of months and go ‘you know what? Fridays isn’t the day to do.’
“There is so much competition on every night of the week out there these days that we went and looked at it and said, ‘You know what? Friday and Saturday are great nights to block for live events, let’s take a look, and let’s see how the Friday night pay-per-views do.’
“Friday night is a night that we might look at it and we might find that Friday night people are already in the wrestling groove. They might decide they want to DVR SmackDown and Rampage and watch our show or they might want to watch SmackDown and Rampage and DVR our pay-per-view.
“One thing we’ve always been, Josh, is open to trying different things. Sometimes you invent Ultimate-X and sometimes you come up with the Reverse Battle Royal.”
Scott answered this as evenly as possible and we think he’s being honest in that the landscape of competition has changed. Thanks to the progression of technology, we can watch all of the shows and they get their views.
It’s a win-win for everyone involved as we get to watch all three companies on the same night if we want to, or we can watch them the next day and they still get the views and buy rates.
