Any major wrestling brand needs more than one show to keep fans attentions. The National Wrestling Alliance has both NWA Powerrr & Ten Pounds of Gold, but have now debuted their third show. It is called Circle Squared, and it exists as a way for wrestlers to try out for a role in NWA.
The Format Of NWA’s New Show
The format to this show is what will separate it from something like WWE’s Tough Enough. You will see two talents (or sets of talents) come out, cut a promo to introduce themselves to fans, and then wrestle each other. This is a formula not too unusual for NWA, being how they normally introduce talent on NWA Powerrr. The twist is what has fans divided. Split into the promo and match is reaction type videos from various Youtubers and old wrestlers.
This last aspect simply came off as being incredibly forced. They had a broad spectrum of guests appear, and they all had nothing but positive feedback for the match and performances. While it is possible that NWA simply editted out anything negative, this reinforces the odd feeling this new program gave off. Removing any critical feedback and including only praise will make it hard to buy into.
The Talent On The Debut Episode
While fans had some negative reactions to the guest stars reacting to the match, the talent on showcase was more than fine. It consisted of two tag teams, the first a father son duo and the second a team of identical looking brutes backed by NWA legend Nikita Koloff. Their promos were short and to the point, as was the match.
The talent and how they were presented were perfect for this program, and shows that NWA can take anyone with the skills and make them a star. All four men wouldn’t seem out of place on an episode of NWA Powerrr, and would simply need a bit more refinement before giving major roles. The audience in attendance really latched onto PJ & Luke Hawx, with PJ being the son of Luke. He took the beatdown in the first half of the match, before his father came in and cleaned house. It was a classic tag team moment done perfectly.
