Recently, we saw AEW lock down one of their biggest signed a new five year contract. With WWE becoming a more attractive option due to recent management changes, it’s become more important than ever for AEW to secure their drawing names. They’ve now ensured that the first AEW World Champion remains with the company through 2025, as Chris Jericho has signed a three year extension.
Chris Jericho Remains One Of The Biggest Names In AEW
Speaking with Variety, Jericho had the following to say about his new contract.
“I guess the simple answer is ‘Why not?’ Things have been going so well in the company, and I really do feel that this is my company. It’s tattooed on my heart, so to speak. I’ve been here since day one, and there’s really no reason not to be here continuing forward.”
“When AEW first started, I think basically it was Chris Jericho and a group of very talented people that might not have been as well known. Within three months that changed and now within three years, we’ve got at least a dozen, maybe two dozen, of our own homegrown stars that came into their own on AEW television.”
The Ring Of Jericho Champion Wants Someone To Slay The Dragon
Jericho is currently the ROH World Champion, having taken the belt from Claudio Castagnoli at AEW Grand Slam. He’s on a crusade to defeat all previous champions possible to prove he’s the best to ever hold the belt, having so far taken down Bryan Danielson & Bandido. Jericho will face Dalton Castle later tonight on a special Tuesday night episode of AEW Dynamite.
When asked about his goals as ROH World Champion, Jericho said the following.
“It’s very simple. I’ve said I want to desecrate the legacy of Ring of Honor. Well, who’s gonna stop me from doing that? We haven’t found out yet, but when it happens, suddenly they slayed the dragon and they become a bigger star as a result.”
